Oil Installers
You make sure you only install quality motor oils from reputable manufacturers and distributors. So why would you need MOM?
Did you know that API testing found that 1 in 5 bulk oils failed to meet API performance? Did you know that consumers are becoming aware that these oils could easily be installed in their cars and trucks? The news is bad enough for our industry's reputation, but it's worse for you. Why? Because you are the face of our industry on the front lines and if something goes wrong anywhere along the chain of custody upstream of you, you are the one left holding the bag. Consumer distrust created by other installers who do the wrong thing also impacts you and our industry as a whole.
How Does MOM Benefit You?
- Ensures you are actually receiving the API-quality brands you are purchasing
- Protects you if someone upstream of you does the wrong thing
- Highlights to consumers your commitment to quality
- Allows you to further separate yourself from the competition
- Helps you meet the new National Conference on Weights and Measures requirements for bulk oil
How does it work and how much does it cost?
Before becoming licensed, distributors and oil change locations will need to demonstrate that they meet a new API chain-of-custody standard. This will include an auditing process to ensure you qualify for MOM. API will review your application to make sure it meets program requirements. Approved locations will receive a Welcome Packet that includes a window sticker license, select marketing materials and information for your customers. Plus, your location(s) will be included in the MotorOilMatters.org installer locator to help drive knowledgeable consumers to your locations.
Along with your application, you only need to provide PDF copies of three invoices from distributors that have delivered product to the location within the last six months and a minimum of three customer receipts generated within the last week. As licenses are awarded by location, if you have more than one location, you will need to provide details about each. The application fee is $100.00 for each location* – a small price to pay to help drive knowledgeable consumers who want quality oil changes to your locations.
*An installer dispensing API-licensed bulk motor oils and meeting all MOM licensing requirements may have its fee waived provided the location enters the API-licensed bulk oil marketer’s API-issued company ID where indicated in the online MOM application system. Installer locations need to contact their distributor or oil marketer for the company ID. For more information on this option, please see the MOM Installer Fee Waiver Document.
