Oil Marketers
You already hold yourself accountable – so should they.
As a manufacturer, you already prove your commitment to quality by participating in API's Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System (EOLCS) and ensuring that you are producing high-quality motor oil that meets API standards. Up to now, there has been no program in place to monitor motor oil distributors or installers to make sure they are delivering exactly what you produce...that's where MOM comes in! Motor Oil Matters (MOM) is an API licensing program that holds oil distributors and oil change locations accountable if they're not up to MOM standards. To become licensed, distributors and oil change locations have to demonstrate to API that they meet an API chain-of-custody standard. Licensed distributors and installers also must submit to an auditing process to ensure the motor oils they deliver and install are the right oils.
How does MOM benefit you?
- Be confident they are pouring what your signs say they should be
- Help prevent counterfeit products
- Help instill consumer and industry confidence in the chain of custody
If MOM licenses distributors and installers, why should marketers participate?
By participating in and supporting Motor Oil Matters, a program focused on maintaining the chain of custody of oil dispensed from tanks, you help ensure that consumers always receive high-quality product meeting API performance standards and you protect your brand, marks and reputation from taking unwarranted damage when someone else in the chain-of-custody does the wrong thing.
MOM is educating consumers about the importance of using the right oil in their engines, but it also is trying to assure oil quality from the marketer all the way down to the consumer. MOM and EOLCS work in tandem to help API and our industry ensure that both the manufactured product and the way that product reaches consumers meet the industry’s highest standards. If either fails, we all risk losing consumers’ confidence and business.
For the good of our industry, join us today by proudly displaying the MOM seal on your consumer websites and encouraging your distributors and installers to participate!
Industry members and consumers are encouraged to notify API about questionable products.
